The Prince begins his adventures as a brash youth out to prove himself to his father by participating in the siege of the Maharajah of India's palace in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. After conquering the palace, the Prince continues on with his father to Azad, where the Prince mistakenly unleashes the fury of the Sands of Time on the populace, converting them to vile sand creatures that immediately besiege the city. Of course, Princess Farah (who was taken prisoner during the attack on the Maharajah) is caught in the ensuing conflict, but protected from becoming a sand creature by a magical medallion she wears around her neck.
Throughout the harrowing adventure that follows, the Prince maintains a certain irascible attitude that carries with it a degree of bravado and even a hint of arrogance. His staggering acrobatic skills are put to the test, as are his potent combat abilities.
In Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, the Prince is a bit wiser for his experiences in Azad, if no less bold and rash. Still, his brush with the mystical forces that surge just beneath the perceptions of most mortals has rendered him a bit wary of messing with ancient powers.
Upon discovering his brother Malik's plans to defend his kingdom with Solomon's Army, our somewhat world-weary Prince's concern grows… he knows from personal experience powers such as these are not to be trifled with lightly.
